eye exams

At LUX, we are committed to providing the highest quality and most thorough eye care possible for you and your family.  Maintaining healthy eyes requires regular vision and eye exams.

COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAM

Your examination will begin with a detailed consultation by Dr Zawilinski, in which she will address your unique visual needs based on your lifestyle and career.  Personal and family ocular history will also be discussed.  This information will aide the doctor in providing you the most customized treatment plan and recommendations.

After your consultation, the doctor will test your vision to get you the

most clear and comfortable prescription for your new glasses or

contact lenses.  She will examine your eye muscle balance and

focusing, color vision, pupillary function, and ocular health, checking

for signs of dry eyes, allergies, cataracts, glaucoma, and macular

degeneration.

In addition to testing your vision and eye health, a comprehensive

exam can also detect systemic diseases such as diabetes, stroke, and

high blood pressure. These conditions can lead to serious health problems

and can often develop and progress without symptoms, therefore early detection is very important.  We encourage all of our patients to have a comprehensive eye examination once a year as part of a proactive approach to overall health.

Please see our Patient Resources page for accepted insurances and what you should bring to your next appointment.

DIGITAL RETINAL PHOTOGRAPHY

As a part of our continued efforts to offer you the most advanced technology, we offer digital retinal photography as part of your annual eye health evaluation. These photos provide an in-depth view of your retina — the back of the eye where many diseases can occur.  It is quick and comfortable, with no side effects. The digital images are maintained in your file to allow Dr. Zawilinski to track changes and diagnose potential eye disease. This advanced technology is not covered under vision benefits, but can be billed to some medical insurance plans if documenting an existing eye disease.

MEDICAL EYE CARE

Medically trained to diagnose and treat eye disease, Dr. Zawilinski will provide a thorough examination to monitor the eyes of patients with diabetes, hypertension, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and many other eye diseases. When necessary, she coordinates care with the top local ophthalmologists and medical professionals to ensure that your eye health needs are being exceeded.

EMERGENCY EYE CARE

Dr. Zawilinski is well trained and experienced in handling a variety of eye emergencies in adults and children. Do you have a painful, red eye?  Did you get something in your eye, sleep in your contact lenses, or scratch your eye?  We are here to help you get better and will prescribe the medications you need.  If you feel you have an eye emergency, contact our office immediately.

The following symptoms require immediate care:

        -Chemical Contact with Eye

        -Sudden Loss of Vision

        -Eye Pain

        -Flashes and Floaters

        -Sensitivity to Light

        -Foreign Body

        -Double vision

        -Severe Eye or Head Trauma

        -Red Eye

        -Presence of Pus/Crusting

Chemicals in the Eye:
If you get any chemicals in your eye, please stop reading this, remove contact lenses if present and irrigate your eye immediately with saline solution or the equivalent.  Then immediately be seen by an eye care specialist.

Mechanical Injury to the Eye:
If you mechanically injure your eye or something gets in your eye, DO NOT push on your eye. Put your glasses or sunglasses on, which will provide some protection to the eye and immediately be seen by an eye care specialist.

PEDIATRIC EYE CARE

We know how precious your little one is to you and we believe their eyesight is no different.  Since poor eyesight can lead to developmental and learning delays, the American Optometric Association recommends your child have their eyes examined as early as 6 months of age and then again by age 3, even if no eye or vision problems have been found by their pediatrician or school screening.  By having an eye exam this early, we are able to detect and better treat any sight threatening conditions that your child may have.

REFRACTIVE SURGERY

CO-MANAGEMENT

Are you interested in refractive surgery but not sure if it is right for you?

During your exam, Dr. Zawilinski will evaluate your eyes and discuss your visual goals to help determine if you are a good candidate for laser vision correction.  If goals are appropriate and there are no contraindications for the procedure, a pre-operative evaluation will be performed to determine suitability for surgery.

This evaluation includes:

      - Counseling on Surgery Options
      - Ocular History Review
      - Determination of Refractive Stability
      - Medical Ocular Health Evaluation
      - Current Refractive Status

If, after the pre-operative evaluation, the decision is made to proceed with surgery, your information will be forwarded to the surgeon, and a pre-surgery consult will be scheduled.  LUX Eye Care only works with top-rated Charlotte area surgeons to assure you receive the highest level of care and the best outcome possible.
